Abstract

This study concerns the PD modeling of the drilling process in polymer matrix laminated composites. After verifying the model by considering simple static and impact loading conditions, a transient analysis is performed to simulate the motion of a rigid drill bit during the drilling process and damage patterns including delamination and material removal. This approach can be extended to consider different drill bit types, several drilling parameters, general layup and material properties of fiber reinforced composites.
