Abstract
This chapter discusses the steps involved in the patient preparation and operating room configuration for common laparoscopic and robotic procedures. Patient selection and preoperative preparation for minimally invasive surgery generally mirrors the process used for open surgery. Laparoscopic and robotic equipment should be available and tested prior to bringing the patient to the operating room. Careful positioning of the patient on the operating room table is key to allow adequate exposure to the surgical site and to minimize positioning-associated complications.
