Abstract

A quantum-well vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser in combination with a quantum-well SESAM is used to generate femtosecond pulses. The passively modelocked VECSEL operates at room temperature emitting an average output power of 5.1W at 1030nm. At a repetition rate of 1.71GHz, the 682 fs pulses are nearly transform limited.
