Abstract

This paper presents a design of an electrically-small helical antenna for long distance communications at HF-band (i.e., 3-30 MHz). Two different matching circuits (i.e., a passive reconfigurable LC network and an active non-Foster circuit) are designed, fabricated and tested to achieve wideband coverage of the designated HF-band. Field-test measurements were carried out to investigate the performance of the received signal strength and the signal to noise ratio (SNR).
