Abstract
This paper describes a FORTRAN implementation of the CODASYL Data Base Task Group report of 1971. The implementation can also be viewed as an extension of the capabilities of FORTRAN in the area of data and file manipulation. The Data Descripition Language is used to generate a schema, which is the logical description of the data base. Application programs access the data base by calling subroutines which are part of the Data Manipulation Language. These commands perform the necessary data manipulation on the data base and provide all the bookkeeping tasks for the links and pointers within the data base. Design, implementation and operating experience with the Data Base Management System are discussed.
