Abstract
The parametric instabilities in the large-amplitude Alfv́en wave (pump waves) were studied. The study was based on the formulation of a wave coupling for magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in a non-uniform background flow. The small-amplitude MHD waves interact with the pump wave via wave coupling coefficients that were dependent on the gradient and time dependence of the background flow. The dispersion equations for different short- and long-wavelength eigenmodes, based on initial value problem, were utilized in discussing the wave stability phenomenon.
