title = "Optimum signal constellation design for ultra-high-speed optical transport networks",
abstract = "In this invited paper we analyze several strategies that can be used facilitate the implementation of 400 GbE and 1 TbE technologies with respect to signal-constellation design and propose the use of optimum signal constellations instead of conventional QAM scheme. The proposed signal constellation designs can be used in combination with large-girth LDPC codes to solve both the bandwidth and energy-efficiency problems of future Ethernet technologies. We further describe several hybrid coded-modulation (CM) schemes that enable multi-terabit serial optical transport, including energy-efficient D-dimensional CM, mode-multiplexed four dimensional CM, and mode-multiplexed generalized-OFDM.",
