Abstract

A mathematical model is developed for the optimal operation of recharge basins, which is a non-linear optimization problem. The objective of the model is to determine the operation that maximizes the infiltration subject to constraints for continuity, infiltration, groundwater flow, and the physical constraints describing the recharge basins. The model can be solved using a non-linear optimizer such as GAMS-MINOS (Murtagh and Saunders, 1977) or GRG2 (Lasdon and Waren, 1984). An application is presented to illustrate the model.
