Abstract
The scaling of free-electron lasers down to the X-ray regime is analyzed theoretically. We show that the combined use of an optical wiggler and an X-ray Bragg reflecting ring resonator provides enough roundtrip gain to bring the system above threshold in the 5 A region. The proposed system can be built with existing technology.
