Abstract

ATM/IP over a self-heating WDM ring with optical layer protection is proposed and demonstrated. The primary effects are redundant OC-48c from an ATM switch with 1+1 APS protection, and the low priority traffic comes from a high-speed IP router (OC-48c). When either fiber or cable failure occurs, optical layer protection can restore the ATM traffic via optical layer span or ring protection within 13ms-23ms while the part-time traffic is dropped.
