Abstract
Consumer spending has driven advancements in technology for centuries. Recently, crowd-sourced funding platforms and regional collectives of collaborative associations termed "hackerspaces" have taken digital and electronic exploration to unprecedented destinations, facilitating a new era of do-it-yourself enthusiasm and the beginning of the third industrial revolution. This ideological as well as functional movement is already revolutionizing healthcare modalities, generating new opportunities for personalized patient care and pre-surgical planning via the utilization of computer drafting and additive manufacturing (3D printing). Future improvements and increasing implementation of these currently available resources will have a drastic impact on the healthcare landscape.
