Abstract
The assumed color-singlet character of physical states is treated exactly in a canonical partition function for the quark-glue plasma in a finite volume. It is shown that this non-perturbative effect leads to a gradual "freezing" of internal degrees of freedom as compared to the Stephan-Boltzmann limit.
