Abstract
A well-defined set of higher order corrections to the lowest order pion-nucleus optical potential is examined within the framework of many-body theory for an infinite nuclear medium. The connection between the pion self-energy operators and multiple scattering formalisms is thereby indicated and a deriviation of the EELL effect given.
