Abstract
Omega-3 fatty acids are known to play a role in inflammation and inflammatory diseases. Since cystic fibrosis has symptoms such as scarring, inflammation, and the formation of cysts in the pancreas, it is thought that omega-3 fatty acids can help to subdue many of these symptoms. However, animal models and clinical trials that have been done do not show concrete evidence of this being true, whereas they have shown some signs of positive results, such as the decrease in inflammatory markers in the body. Therefore, clinical trials on the effect of omega-3 fatty acids on cystic fibrosis must be performed at a larger scale and on human models to conclude if this is a viable treatment.
