Abstract

A novel bi-directional wavelength path switched ring (BWPSR) is proposed and demonstrated. Three optical channel layer protection schemes (1+1 UPSR, O-BLSR, and BWPSR) are discussed and compared. A fast protection by BWPSR is demonstrated. In addition, a similar protection time is experimentally confirmed by inter-working with and without other vendor's transport WDM equipment.
