Abstract

We develop a formalism for studying pulse propagation in the vicinity of a two-photon resonance, in the spectral region where the effects of two-photon absorption are not overwhelming. The formalism predicts self-steepening and asymmetric spectral broadening in the transmitted pulse, as previously observed in experiments and numerical simulations involving atomic vapors and semiconductors.
