Abstract
Nonlinear optics provides a wonderful playground for the scientist interested in developing a general understanding of nonlinear behavior and for the innovator for whom the subject holds a wealth of technological promise. The goals of this review are to present a unified overview which emphasizes the universal nature of much of the observed behavior and to bring the rich potential of the field to the attention of the scientific community.
