Abstract
The derivation of spatial and time-domian versions of the undirectional pulse propagation equation (UPPE) was presented. The gap between the numerical Maxwell's equation solvers and a family of undirectional propagation equations was removed by the equation. The UPPE was modified suitably for the ultrathin optical waveguides, such as submicron silica wires. A z-propagated UPPE suitable for strandlike waveguides with transverse dimensions comparable to the wavelength was also elaborated.
