Abstract

We review the physics and performance of recently developed photorefractive polymers that exhibit refractive index modulation amplitudes of 0.007 and net gain coefficients in excess of 200 cm-1. Several examples of applications based on these materials are presented. Future trends in materials and related optical system developments are discussed.
