Abstract

We presented comparative analysis of the far and near field amplification techniques for loss compensation in metamaterials using solitary pulse dynamics as an example. In both cases we found the spatial period of pulse oscillations, as well as the velocity and shape of these pulses. The analytic results were verified against the direct numerical simulations.
