Abstract

The authors report near-diffraction-limited high power (~1 W), single longitudinal mode emission from a 960 - 980nm tunable CW diode laser, consisting of an unstable resonator tapered amplifier structure in a grating-tuned external cavity. >3W output powers were obtained near the gain peak (~970nm) from the grating-tuned diode laser in a quasi-CW mode (500μs, 100Hz) of operation.
