Abstract
Port wine stain anatomy was analyzed using the Monte Carlo simulations of the epidermis, dermis and blood vessel geometry of a tissue. The energy deposition throughout the tissue evaluated by the model showed vessels larger than 50 micrometer in diameter have more energy deposition in the vessel. Light scattering occurred in the dermis and attenuated to the vessel, creating higher heat generation. However, lesser light attenuation in the vessels and irregular shape of the vessels can mask this effect.
