Abstract

Sleep deficiency is a fundamental problem that impacts neurocognitive growth, behavioral changes, disease development and performance among young children. Existing investigations of sleep disorder rely heavily on clinical based "snapshot" measurements that provide little information on the underlying dynamics of the sleep disorder impacts, possible interventions and treatments. How to quantify and characterize sleep disturbance, how to incorporate teacher reports and school performance, and how to establish the comparison of the prevalence of sleep disorders across various studies are the main challenges in this research area. This paper introduces a new modeling simulation framework that uses real time sleep and activity sensors as input, together with school teachers' evaluations, and student performance, to simulate and predict students' performance based on their sleeping time and activity levels.
