Abstract
The objective of the model presented is to determine the minimum cost solution, given the nonlinear nature of the equations required to describe the cost and the hydraulics of a water distribution system. The model proposed in this paper is based upon combining a nonlinear optimization procedure with a hydraulic simulation procedure determine which pipes of the water distribution system should be replaced, rehabilitated, or left alone to meet specified demands and pressures and to minimize costs.
