Abstract

Micropropagation through in vitro culture techniques is an ideal approach for large-scale propagation of ornamental potted plants, including those having value in the foliage and flowering plants industry. An overview is presented on in vitro propagation techniques that employ organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis. The development and remarkable achievements of ornamental potted plants biotechnology from the last three decades are reviewed. The usefulness of potted foliage and flowering plants in the commercial ornamental industry, as well as propagation techniques are also discussed.
