Abstract
The most promising methods and principles to remove viruses from water are considered. Many biochemical procedures used for concentrating and purifying proteins have been explored in the development of methods for concentrating viruses from water. Viruses are largely protein, and methods useful for concentrating macromolecular proteins such as phase partition, immunochemical, precipitation, and adsorption techniques have been applied to the concentration of viruses from water. In practice, many of these methods are highly effective in the laboratory for concentrating viruses, but their application is often limited to use with highly contaminated waters.
