Abstract
A method to enhance hard x-ray bremsstrahlung by coating nanoparticles (NP) on optically smooth metal targets was demonstrated. A 13-fold enhancement in the total emission in the 10-200 keV range using copper NP-coated targets was reported and shwed that they yield hotter electrons in comparison to optically polished, uncoated targets. Such results were well explained by a simple model that invokes local electric field enhancement.
