Abstract
Mechanics of shear stress transmission to endothelial cells in blood vessels lined with an endothelial surface layer (ESL) was studied. Both flat and wavy surfaces were considered as endothelial surfaces in arteries are non-uniform, with bulges corresponding to endothelial cell nuclei. Results showed that at the surface peaks, shear stress was higher and the ESL was thinner.
