Abstract

Ultrasonic waves are not very effective for detecting internal defects in materials that are highly attenuative for acoustic waves, such as ceramic and polymer foam tiles. THz (1012 Hz) electromagnetic radiation or T-ray offers an alternative to ultrasonic inspection techniques. This paper investigates the capability of T-ray for detecting mechanical and heat induced damages in polymer foam tiles.
