Abstract

A field experiment has been performed to test two methods of determining volumetric soil water content. The aim was to throw light on the reliability and practical use of the gypsum block method, which is considered to contain uncertainties in the relevant literature. For this purpose, the block method was compared with the much more accurate Time Domain Reflectometry Method of determining volumetric soil water content. Measurements were made, over a period of two years, at 32 locations with TDR Wave Guides and gypsum blocks installed side by side at different depths. The results were evaluated by statistical methods.
