Abstract

A study was performed on the basics of lightpipes. A solid lightpipe is a volume of material that transports flux from the source to a target using total internal reflection. The differences between illumination system design and imaging system design, alternative technologies that compete with lightpipes and basic characteristics of lightpipes sources, materials and display area were presented.
