L-band wavelength tunable EDTFLs were developed and investigated in this work. Wavelength-tunable range of 38 nm from 1589 to 1627 nm was achieved with 3-m long Er3+-doped tellurite fiber pumped at 1570 nm. It is anticipated that much higher efficiency and wider wavelength tunable range of an EDTFL can be obtained if the propagation loss of the gain fiber is improved. This work was supported in part by the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Integrated Access Networks under Grant EEC-0812072, and in part by the Technology Research Initiative Fund (TRIF) Photonics Initiative of the University of Arizona.
