Abstract
An add/drop filter was demonstrated using ion-exchange waveguides and photowritten Bragg gratings. Surface waveguides were formed in borosilicate glass by silver ion-exchange for the fabrication of add/drop filter. The silicate glass was specially designed for Ag+ ion-exchange to minimize Ag+ reduction to metallic silver and to give a linear dependence of refractive index change on Ag+ concentration.
