Abstract

This report is concerned mainly with the contribution of U. S. scientists, during the period 1975–1978, to the general area of particle acceleration and transport in the solar wind, excluding particles of solar origin. Other work is cited only when it bears directly on the subject being discussed. Progress in this area is currently very rapid, and I will discuss those aspects which appear to be affecting the current mainstream. Excellent reviews concerning this area have been published by Volk (1975) and Fisk (1977).
