Abstract

Abstract: We discuss our recent results on linear and nonlinear phenomena taking place in inhomogeneous and guidedwave metamaterial structures with positive, negative and near-zero refractive index. We perform a detailed study of the effect of resonant field enhancement and absorption taking place near zero index transition point, new regimes of optical bistability, modulational instability, and gap solitons, and their potential applications.
