Abstract
The diffraction-limited imaging systems, whose performance is quantified via the average pixelwise mutual information, were discussed. The information-theoretic space-bandwidth-product (SBP) of the system was also described. An average bit-error-rate (BER) of the output image was used to quantify the overall imaging system performance. The problem of designing a real-world optical imaging system subject to an image fidelity constraint was also investigated.
