Abstract

The improvement in the aperture efficiency of impulse radiating antennas using polarization control is discussed. The aperture efficiency is further increased by reorientation of the fields in the aperture plane using a uniaxially conducting mesh. The local direction of conduction is determined by computing the TEM mode distribution in the aperture plane and projecting that on to the paraboloidial surface through a stereographic projection. The result shows that the replacement of the solid paraboloidal reflector with a mesh of uniaxially conducting wires, substantially increase the radiated fields from Impulse Radiating Antennas.
