Funding Information: On March 2, 2001, at an invitational conference sponsored by the American Pharmaceutical Association and the Healthcare Distribution Management Association Healthcare Foundations through a grant from the Institute for the Advancement of Community Pharmacy, leaders of consumer advocacy organizations gathered to learn about issues and problems related to medication use. Participants were given examples of how pharmacists have found solutions to these problems by using patient information to improve patient safety and medication-related health outcomes and told how pharmacists protect patient information. The meeting participants reviewed a draft of this white paper, and the present version incorporates and addresses the concerns they expressed. ",
