Abstract

Stimulus control therapy (SCT) and sleep restriction therapy (SRT) are widely used interventions for the behavioral management of insomnia disorders. Despite wide dissemination of these approaches, implementation techniques are variable across clinical trials, clinical practice settings, and public education. In this commentary, we seek to outline the original conceptualizations of SCT and SRT, identify points of variability in implementation, and provide recommendations for applying SCT and SRT in clinical practice.
