Abstract

This paper presents the simulation and measured results of two-element antenna array on layered ground plane that emulates an Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC). The antenna operates at 60 GHz for wireless interchip data transfers in multi-core computers. Use of multiple switchable antennas for directional beams between cores in the azimuthal plane is proposed and discussed. The importance of implementing both the directional gain and polarization in the Friis transmission equation is illustrated. This work presents a Friis model that is verified by full wave simulations and measurements.
