Abstract
Preservative chemicals are added to wood products to prevent biological deterioration of the wood from insects and fungi. In warm humid climates, wood exposed to the outdoor environment will last only 1 to 2 years, whereas the structural integrity of the wood can be increased to 25 through 40 years with treatment.
