Abstract
Rabbits maintained on a low calcium diet for up to 7 weeks developed marked hypocalcemia. The serum to aqueous humor ratio of calcium was independent of the degree of hypocalcemia. All animals developed visible lens opacities. Lenses were graded as to the severity of cataract development. The development of lens opacification was correlated with derangement of the lens electrolyte composition.
