Abstract
It is the purpose of this study to compare the influence of HA coating on titanium versus stainless steel cancellous screw removal torques at 6 weeks in young and aged canine groups. This study has demonstrated that the application of an HA coating to either stainless steel or titanium cancellous screws can significantly improve the interface strength as determined by removal torque testing at 6 1/2 weeks. This suggests that the interface has been enhanced so as to minimize micromotion and is consistent with current orthopedic applications for HA.
