Abstract
Previous chapters in this section have examined essential aspects of counseling group leadership: the person of the leader as well as techniques and theoretical foundations. In this chapter, I turn our attention to the functions and styles of leaders of counseling groups. Following a review of conceptualizations of group leader functions and style, I will examine the research that has investigated these constructs to determine the level of empirical support for them and consider needs for future research. Finally, I will consider the implications of this material for training group workers.
