Abstract
It is shown that within the standard model of the early universe no consistent scenario can be constructed for sufficient annihilation of monopole-antimonopole pairs due to gravitational clumping. This result implies that the resolution of the problem of too many primordial monopoles must be a mechanism to suppress their initial creation.
