Abstract
From the "Fall of the Wall" in 1989 until the "Battle in Seattle" in 1999, the American Left seemed to face a historically unprecedented dilemma: how to refashion an anticapitalist program following the demise of a Cold War world that had always offered at least the ideological wedge of an "actually existing" alternative to capitalism.
