Abstract

A study is performed on Gaussian beam optics. Gaussian beams are used to study diffraction in the near-field and the far-field, examine beam divergence upon propagation, investigate diffraction-limited focusing through a lens and observe the Gouy phase-shift. The effect of lens on Gaussian beam is also discussed.
