Functional interactions between opioid mu and delta receptors in vivo

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Recent work has shown that δ agonists, given at dose which do not produce antinociception, increase or decrease the antinociceptive potency and efficacy of some μ agonists such as morphine without altering the rate of development of tolerance. Such studies in vivo, and others in vitro, form the basis of a hypothesis of functionally complexed μ and δ receptors. Compounds with apparent selectivity for these sites are being identified.
