Abstract

There are 8000 different types of polyphenols. Various polyphenols have been found to be involved in the anticarcinogenesis process. Anticancer mechanisms include inducing apoptosis as well as halting pro-cancer growth processes and acting as antioxidants. In the little data that have been produced, polyphenols have shown promise in decreasing cancer recurrence in the breast, prostate and colon, with further research needed for these types of cancer as well as other types of cancer.
