Abstract

We show how the dynamics of high-power femtosecond pulses can be understood in terms of three-wave mixing, with nonlinear medium excitations connecting the optical in- and out-waves. This approach allows one to extract information about the pulse dynamics from spectrally resolved far-field measurements.
